Thabo Mokoena was raised on a mixed farming operation in the Free State province of South Africa, where his family has bred Bonsmara cattle for three generations. After studying Animal Science at the University of the Free State, he spent five years managing commercial feedlots in Mpumalanga before returning to the family stud in 2019.

He now runs a 400-head Bonsmara breeding operation while contributing to CattlePrice Africa as Breed and Farming Editor. His hands-on experience spans the full southern African beef value chain β€” from breeding selection and pasture management through feedlot finishing to the auction ring. He has judged Bonsmara, Nguni, and Brahman breed shows at Bloemfontein, Pretoria, and Windhoek.

Thabo's writing combines practical farming knowledge with an understanding of breed economics. His breed comparison articles and feedlot profitability guides are among the most-read content on the platform. He is a registered member of the Bonsmara Cattle Breeders' Society of South Africa.
